Notable quote from Dave McClure...

“Focus on Critical Few Actionable metrics - if you don’t use the metric to make a decision, it’s not actionable.”

Flickr Pro - worth every penny!

I never thought I would pay for an online service because that’s just so anti-web2.0 and anti-Freeconomics but ended up shelling out $25 for a Flickr Pro account about 2 wks ago. So far, I’ve been going through my old photo albums and backing up all my important pictures - some are public, some are shared with friends and you can even choose to only share with family. Flickr has been worth every penny and I would recommend everyone to give the free account a try. The UI is clean, the full resolution photos are awesome and the built in social network just closes the deal.

Testing Facebook chat...

Nothing special but seems like a good way for Facebook to keep users on the site even longer.

Government HATES usability. Got an email from the state revenue dept saying that i didn’t confirm my email for a quarterly filing on time. So I have to generate a new confirmation code but there’s NO LINK!!! wtf? now i have to go dig up the URL and hunt down the email confirmation again! Absolutely a waste of time

Why I decided not to use Disqus on my blog...

Disqus logo

Disqus has a really cool commenting system that replaces your blog’s existing commenting system and helps organize all your comments in one place. In addition, it tracks all your comments on other blogs and organizes them in your Disqus profile.

I had it running on leo-chen.com for a few days but decided to remove it. I’m happy with it but had a major concern. When I deactivate the Disqus plugin, all the Disqus comments disappear. Does that mean if Disqus ever goes down, I lose my comments? That doesn’t make me feel “safe” so I switched back to the existing WordPress commenting system because it keeps all my comments in my database. I will continue to use Disqus for my Tumblr & to track my comments on other blogs but prefer to manage comments internally for the time being…
